CHARLIE PITCHER

TRANSATLANTIC ROW, IN AID OF

ADDENBROOKE’S HOSPITAL

Charlie Pitcher, brother of RCYC member Katie Power and well known to many members, is currently rowing solo across the Atlantic from La Gomera in the Canary islands to Antigua, as an entry in the 2009 Woodvale Atlantic Rowing Race.

Members may be interested to follow Charlie’s progress, by visiting his website www.transatlanticsolo.com which contains full details of his training and preparation for the race, his regularly updated blog, and a link to the race organisers’ site, www.atlanticrowingrace09.com. You can also, via his website, donate to Charlie’s chosen charity, Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust, to fund equipment for the Dialysis Renal Unit at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.

The start of the race was due to take place at the beginning of December 2009, but prolonged bad weather delayed this until 4th January 2010. Charlie got off to a great start in his boat “JJ (INSURE&GO)”, leading the fleet which includes 7 solo boats, 20 pairs and 3 fours.

Charlie’s aim is to raise £100,000 for Addenbrooke’s, and to break the solo record for the 2,548 mile crossing which currently stands at 42 days.
