The Stug Perry Trophy is one of the more important events in the Daring Calendar and is hotly contested by all Daring sailors.
Stug Perry was originally a 5.5 metre sailor and the Daring was a development of his silver medal winning 5.5 Vision. Later, Stug had a share in the Daring Defiant for many years.
The trophy was originally "The King's Cup", having been presented by King George V to the Royal Ulster Yacht Club and won by Stug's father in 1924 in his 12 metre Noresca. Interestingly, the cup is reputed to be part of a job lot bought by Queen Victoria. Many similar cups, also presented by the Royal Family, can be found elsewhere.
